“I would like to tell every woman don’t do what I did. Make sure you check yourself out, and go to the doctor in a timely manner,” said Claudia Price, mother of singing sensation, Kelly Price.

Price waited almost 2 years before seeking medical attention for a breast condition that caused her left breast to enlarge to three times its normal size, bleeding from her nipple and an excruciating pain that pulsated all the way up to her neck.

“When I finally went to the doctor, I was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC). The doctor who chose to call me while I was a work, told me to conserve energy, because I was going to die,” said Price who is now celebrating her 7th year as survivor of breast cancer.

According to the National Cancer Institute (NCI), Inflammatory Breast Cancer is a rare but very aggressive type of breast cancer in which the cancer cells block the lymph vessels in the skin of the breast. This type of breast cancer is called “inflammatory” because the breast often looks swollen and red, or “inflamed.”

Price is looking forward to sharing her testimony with others as she takes her victorious walk, during the 7th Annual Sister to Sister Fitness Festival, which will take place on Saturday, October 7, 2006. The 5k walk/run will be held at Kiest Park located in Dallas, Texas, beginning at 8:30 am. The event is being sponsored by the Celebrating Life Foundation. The Celebrating Life Foundation is a Non- Profit Organization devoted to educating the African American Community and women of color about the risks of breast cancer, and the benefits of early detection and treatment.
