On Saturday, September 15, 2001 the Celebrating Life Foundation will host its 2nd annual Sister to Sister (5k) Fitness Festival at Kiest Park in Dallas, Texas.
“After the success of last year’s event, we decided to make the Sister to Sister Fitness Festival (5K) an annual program,” states Sylvia Dunnavant the Founder and Executive Director the Celebrating Life Foundation. “We think it is very important to promote overall healthy lifestyles in our community, therefore this event is the perfect well- rounded way to promote general health, ” added Dunnavant.
“However, because the primary focus of this event is to promote breast cancer awareness in the African American Community we will have special gift packs and as well as free mammograms which will be provided by St. Paul Mammography Unit, ” states Dunnavant.
The Festival will began with a race/walk at 8:30 am and will include various health screenings being provided by Parkland Health System. There will be 18 vendor booths providing health-related information including nutrition, body fat analysis, blood pressure screenings, and body building consultations.
Even the kids will have an opportunity to take parking in the festival, because there will be clowns; face painting and finger print identifications.
The corporate supporters for the Sister to Sister (5k) Fitness Festival include State Farm Insurance Companies, American Airlines, Bank One, USFI, HBO, Starbucks, 7-Eleven, KRNB, Kraft, Guaranty Federal Bank, Southwestern Bell, Colorplast, PRO-LINE INTERNATIONAL, Nordstrom, KHVN and the Dallas Weekly are some of the corporate supporters of this event.
Senator Royce West, Crystal Thornton, Lynne Haze, Antonio Johnson, Tonya Hall, Willis Johnson, Anthony Mark Hankins, Fred Marsh, and Jim Washington are celebrity host for this event.
There is a registration fee of $15.00 for walkers and runners; however the festival activities are free to the public. Registration forms may be picked at participating 7-Eleven stores or printed from the Celebrating Life Foundation’s website, www.celebratinglife.org.
The Celebrating Life Foundation is a non- profit organization devoted to educating the African American community and women of color about the risks of breast cancer, and the benefits of early detection and treatment.
